Simon Haworth’s thoughts ahead of Saturday’s fixture vs Matlock Town at Bower Fold where he previews the game, what happened last time out and the FA Trophy game at Farsley.

On last weekend’s injury time equaliser vs Basford…

"I’m really pleased that we kept going until the end. It was awful conditions to play football in, but I am thrilled we were able to go to a club like that and have large spells of the game.

“We probably had the better chances in the first half but didn’t make enough use of the wind in the second.

“Overall, I’m made up with the last minute equaliser, it was something we certainly deserved. I’m not saying we deserved to win but it was a pretty even game and we were able to get a good solid point on the road against a good team.

“I think it shows the progress we’ve made, we have been there in previous seasons and lost badly and we’ve also lost at home to them a couple of times in my spell so it was good to go away from home and get that result.

“It’s good for Bakks to get a goal and it was more than what we deserved.”

On the FA Trophy defeat to Farsley…

“I was really disappointed, I thought we totally out played Farsley and went to a team who are in the league above and were much the better team.

“We created the better chances, had more shots on goal and we were much the better team so whilst that is really flattering that we’ve out played a team from the league above, we didn’t get the result to go through and that’s really frustrating especially at the end, Jake has had a really good chance and so has Brogs.

“We need to start putting these chances away. I think we are all aware that we need a target man to come in and give us something to play off and get us a few goals but as I’ve said previously, it’s not for the want of trying. We have exhausted so many avenues and we’re hopeful we can bring one in but it’s proving really difficult at the moment.

“You carry on and keep working with the lads who are playing well, we’re just missing a finishing touch to it really. It was a really good performance but with not much to show for it at Farsley.

On Saturday vs Matlock…

“I am looking forward to Saturday’s game, we’ll see if we are able to bring an attacker in to help us to freshen us up, up front.

“Jay has had a bit of a setback so we’re no closer to seeing him.

“I feel we are short of an attacker, maybe even two. I think that makes the difference at this level. We’ve got a good team, we are playing well and having good spells in games but we’re just missing that finishing touch.

“Like I said, it’s not for the want of trying to be bringing these people in, they are either don’t want to come to us which happens, they are too expensive or they’re just not available or not ready to do the job for us.

“We’ll keep looking and I think if we can get that in, we’ll go on a good run together with the way we are playing and the squad that we’ve got.

“Saturday will be a tough game, we went there earlier in the season but we’ve changed an awful lot since we played them then. I expect us to be a lot closer even though it was only 2-1 last time and we could have got something on the day, being one up at half time.

“We’re a much better team than we were then and have a much better squad.

“Back on our home patch, it’ll be a good test for us as Matlock are right up there and are a good side.

“We’ve not been at home for a while so I’m looking forward to it. Everyone’s ready and fit and well to go.

“It’s now tough to pick a squad really, we have 17, 18 players fit and playing well and we’re looking to add to that so it’ll be tough but we’re looking forward to it.”
