Phil is a striker of some pedigree, and showed Celtic fans what he is capable of when he put FC United of Manchester two up at home in the FA Cup, putting Celtic firmly on the back foot and ultimately out of the competition. He has an excellent pedigree starting out at Manchester United, even making a first team appearance (squad number 41) in the Carling Cup against Crewe Alexandra. In June 2007, he was released from Manchester United, and went north of the border to Calendonian Thistle for a trial, but ultimately joined Blackpool FC. Not getting any starts led to Phil having trials at Bury, although he impressed, he was not taken on, and joined Northwich Victoria instead in 2008, before moving to Hyde United. His stay at the Tigers was brief, making just five appearances, before moving onto Leigh Genesis and scoring on his debut. At the start of 2009/10 season, Phil joined FC United of Manchester, staying with them for one season, before returning to full time football with Celtic in August 2010, winning two consecutive the Golden Boots in his two seasons before being tempted to join Forest Green Rovers for the 2012/13 season. First team appearances were hard to come by at FGR for Marshy (just 5), and after a spell on loan with Hereford, scoring once in his seven appearances, in 2013, he joined Guiseley. He scored once in 21 appearances, and has been sent on loan back to the place where he was a goal-scoring machine, Celtic. After thirteen appearances and five goals (including the only goal against Lincoln in the FA Trophy) Phil's loan spell ended, and he was recalled, now fit and sharp back to Guiseley.
