Match Preview :- Hyde United - Monday December 27th, 2021 (15:00:00)

On Bank Holiday Monday, Celtic are back at Bower Fold for our final home match of the year when we host local rivals, Hyde United. Hyde are currently 15th in the table, level on points and one place behind Celtic on goal difference, though Celtic do have a game in hand. Tickets are available online or on the gate. Kick off 3pm.

Hyde kicked off this season with three straight losses, picking up their first win at home to Grantham. Their first away win of the season didn’t come until three matches later when they beat Nantwich 2-0 at the start of September. That was their last away win for several weeks, losing their next five until the start December when they beat South Shields 2-1. They have had one more match since then, away at Gainsborough, their most recent match, which they drew 1-1. This gives them an away record of 2 wins, 1 draw and 8 losses.

Their top scorer this season with seven goals is Liam Hardy, who has since moved to Worksop Town. Tom Pratt has stepped into his striking boots and is now right behind on six goals. Hyde have been scoring an average of 1 goal per away match, with 1.2 scored overall, and they have failed to score in four away matches (six overall) this season. They have been conceding an average of two goals per away game (1.6 overall) and have kept only one clean sheet on the road this season (four overall) in their 2-0 win over Nantwich at the start of September.

We’ve played Hyde dozens of times over the years. In the last 10 years, they have visited six times, with Celtic winning just once in that period, the 7-1 sensation in 2015 that saw Dominic Calvert-Lewin start his meteoric rise. Hyde have won four, twice in the league and twice in the Ray Stanley Memorial Trophy.

Their last visit here was in 2018, when we drew 2-2 with them, Neil Kengni’s brace either side of half-time cancelled out midway through the second half. The last meeting between the two sides was Boxing Day 2019, when Celtic won 2-1 at Ewen Fields, thanks to first half strikes from Jonathan Ustabasi and Scott Bakkor.

In Hyde’s last match, the 1-1 draw away at Gainsborough, Hyde lined up as:
1. Joe Green
2. Harry Ditchfield
3. Kyle Brownhill
4. Edward Ikpakwu
5. Jordan Fagbola
6. Bradley Roscoe
7. Jack Dyche
8. Cameron Fogherty
9. Tom Pratt
10. Liam Tongue
11. Kris Prifti

Celtic’s last match was the 2-0 home defeat to Matlock Town, in which we lined up as:
1. Will Huffer
2. Josh Dawodu
3. Stephen Brogan
4. Sam Wedgbury
5. Connor O’Grady
6. Keenan Quansah
7. Tyreece Onyeka
8. Charley Doyle
9. Scott Bakkor
10. Adam O’Reilly
11. Justin Johnson

The most Celtic can climb with a win is two places to 12th, but four teams below us are within striking distance, meaning a loss could see us drop to 18th.
