Match Preview :- Cheadle Town - Wednesday September 14th, 2005 (19:45:00)
After disposing of Nantwich Town in the previous round of the Cheshire Senior Cup, Cheadle Town will have the pleasure of the company of Celtic on Wednesday night (kick off 7:45). Cheadle Town are currently tenth in Northwest Counties division 2, having played three league games, and amassing six points from two wins and a loss.

Cheadle have been having a good start to their season so far. Though they lost their opening fixture at home to Darwen, they have gone on to beat Leek CSOB (away) and Eccleshall (home), as well as dumping Abbey Hey and Bamber Bridge out of the FA Cup. Their last match was also in the FA cup, and they were comprehensively beaten away at Marine, 4-0. This has been the only competitive game this season that Cheadle have failed to score in, scoring fourteen goals in seven games, an average of two per game. Against Eccleshall they kept their only clean sheet of the season, but otherwise have conceded twelve goals over seven games, an average of 1.7 goals a game.

Goals this season have come from six players, with Lee Wakefield and Arron Riley leading their top scorers chart with four a piece, and ex-Celtic player Dean Martin pushing them all the way on three.

Celtic are now unbeaten in four games, having won three on the trot at home, and drawn their last outing 1-1 at Hednesford. We have scored fifteen goals in seven games (2.1 per game), one better than Cheadle, and conceded eleven (1.6 per game), again one better than Cheadle. Our top scorer is the clinical Lee Ellington, who now has eight goals to his name, which puts him second in the Conference North Scorers Leader board. Celtic have yet to keep a clean sheet this season, something that will no doubt be a priority against a team four steps down the pyramid.

In their recent defeat in the FA Cup away at Marine, Cheadle lined up as:
1. Troy Whittle
2. Darren McConnell
3. Joe Brooks
4. Rob Green
5. Rob Kempton
6. Mike Brereton
7. Arron Riley
8. Rob Brocklehurst
9. Barry Cotterill
10. Dean Martin
11. Andy Linden

In Celtic?s recent home win over Moor Green, Celtic lined up as:
1. Paul Pettinger
2. Grant Black
3. Nathan Wharton
4. Barrie Keeling
5. Mark Haran
6. Chris Price
7. Steve Garvey
8. Tom Field
9. Lee Ellington
10. Paul Sykes
11. Neil Prince

Though our opposition may be lowly, they should not be underestimated. This coupled by the likelihood of Celtic giving a run out to players who have not seen much action thus far, Cheadle are going to be fancying their chances of a big scalp. The automated prediction has gone for a 1-0 win for Celtic on the night, but Celtic will have to work for it, Cheadle a good footballing side and should be respected.

Look, no mention of FC United who are in the same division!
