We are thrilled to confirm the signing of Guiseley captain Liam Tongue who joins Celtic for the 2024/25 season!

The 26-year-old midfielder signs for Celtic after departing Guiseley, where he was their club captain and caretaker manager for a period of last season.

Tongey will be a familiar face at Bower Fold, having made 49 appearances for the Club between 2017-2019.

After five years away, he now returns to Celtic ahead of the 2024-25 season. He said: “I’m happy to be back. It’s amazing to see how the Club has changed making positive steps forward since last time I was here.

“For me, I’ve always said play where you feel wanted. It was tough for me last year due to commitments as manager and due to injury, I didn’t really play as much as I wanted to. In football this happens but for me I can now look forward to the new season and hopefully contributing towards a successful campaign.

“The Club has completely changed for the better and I think everyone can see that, it’s heading in the right direction and it’s something I wanted to be a part of again.

“I know the Gaffer very well and we’ve had a lot of positive chats which has massively helped me come to this decision.

“I can’t wait to see you all again and have a good catch up!”

James Kinsey added: “Liam is a fantastic coup for us. I work with him on a daily basis and have got to really know him as a lad. There aren’t many better around and I have no doubt he will bring great standards to our group.

“He scores goals and is proven at a higher level. We’re really excited to see him push on here.”

Spells with Stockport Georgians, Cheadle Town and Mossley saw Liam first join Celtic in 2017. 49 appearances followed before he signed for Hyde United. Liam went on to become a fans favourite at Ewen Fields scoring 27 goals in 129 games in a three year spell.

Last season saw Liam captain Guiseley in the NPL Premier and also manage the Club as caretaker manager.

He now returns to Celtic for an exciting new challenge.

Welcome back, Tongey!
