On Wednesday night, Celtic face Nantwich Town in the Cheshire Senior Cup (kick off 7:45pm). Nantwich are currently twelfth in the EvoStik Premier division, the division below Celtic. There will be a match centre for this game.
Nantwich have won five and drawn two of their opening fourteen games. Their most recent game was a 2-1 home defeat by FC United of Manchester, whilst their most recent away game saw them draw 0-0 at Workington. Their last win was at home to Marine, whom they beat 2-1, whilst their last win away from home was their 4-1 defeat of Ramsbottom United in August. Their only other away win was the opening game of the season when they beat Buxton 1-0. Their top scorer with five goals is Aaron Burns.
Nantwich's last competitive meeting was in the Cheshire Senior Cup, when they beat us 1-0 in the final. We have twice knocked them out of the FA Trophy, but the last time we beat them in the Cheshire Senior Cup was in September 2004. They also beat us in this competition back in October 2010, when we played mainly reserves. They have only been to Bower Fold once in recent times, and Celtic were the victors in that game, beating them 2-1 in the FA Trophy, with Lloyd Ellams and Phil Marsh getting the goals, in December 2010, just a couple of months after losing in the Trophy.
Nantwich have Adam Pepper and Dave Stevenson in their ranks, goalkeeper Stevenson stood in during Celtic's keeper crisis last season, whilst Adam Pepper needs no introduction. Steve Jones missed their last game, the 2-1 home defeat at the hands of FC United of Manchester, when he was injured in the warm up, whilst Andy Jones pulled up during the match, and both will have to be assessed ahead of Wednesday's game. In that match Nantwich lined up as:
1. Dave Stevenson
2. Sam Wilson
3. Andy White
4. Mark Jones
5. Andy Jones
6. Mat Bailey
7. Harry Clayton
8. Alex Meaney
9. Aaron Burns
10. Iain Howard
11. Max Harrop.
Celtic had a blank Saturday, being out of the FA Cup on FA Cup weekend, but in our last match, the 3-1 home defeat to Gusieley, Celtic lined up as:
1. Lewis King
2. Oliver Crowley
3. Mike Williams
4. Matty Hughes
5. Matt Regan
6. Kelvin Bleau
7. Ben McKenna
8. Matty Mainwaring
9. Anthony Malbon
10. Charlie Ennis
11. Liam Dickinson
Celtic have nothing to lose in this match, so should be able to play in a relaxed fashion, although losing is a habit we need to break.
