Greg Wilkinson provided a clever flick from a throw-in to Lloyd Ellams. Ellams didn't hesitate, he turned his marker and fired low catching Aaran Taylor off guard at the near post to open his league account. Minutes later ad it was two. After good pressure Marsh won a corner. Adam Kay whipped it in and Workington could not get it clear, putting the ball out for a second corner. Kay whipped it in again, putting the cross right on Marsh's foot letting him turn it past a stationary Taylor.
Shaun Vipond fired a free kick high and wide before Marsh and Ellams traded passes for Marsh to curl a shot toward the top corner, but Taylor pulled off a good stop.
Celtic lowered the tempo to cruise toward half time, which allowed Bowman another chance just before the interval, with Budtz making a great save from the low drive.
Celtic were gifted a goal right at the start of the second half, when Alex Wight was put under pressure by Marsh and completely miscued his backpass letting Marsh lob Taylor with a sublime finish. Minutes later Marsh completed his hat-trick when Ellams put a great ball through for Marsh to chase, he did and showed great composure to knock the ball past Taylor and then tap it in.
Marsh got a personal tally of four when Ellams showed great skill to steal the ball before sending Marsh on his way, the Celtic striker letting the ball drift across his body and then smashing it between Taylor's legs.
Wilkinson could have made it six with a cheeky free kick in his own half, but the ball just cleared the bar with Taylor still backpeddling. Wilkinson and Lee Ellam linked well to let Wilkinson curl one that Taylor read well and saved. Shortly after and the roles were reversed,Elam driving low, but again Taylor kept Celtic out.
Workington reorganised with ten minutes left, but even with Celtic content to sit back and soak up the pressure, it was too little too late and Celtic cantered to the final whistle.
