Pre Season Continues
By Debbie Taylor

Celtic had a good run out against a York side too strong to make any headway against.

In the opening five minutes, York showed their superiority with Scott Fenwick getting closer with each effort, poking narrowly wide, seeing a stooping header tipped over and latching onto the corner only to put it the wrong side of the post.

The opening goal when it came was a corker. Simon Heslop could only see marked players to pass too, and with Aaron Chalmers closing in, took the shot, rocketing it into the back of the net from twenty-five yards.

Aidan Connolly and Daniel Nti both went close, but as the half drew to a close, Celtic had never even had a sniff of a chance against a defence marshalled by former Celtic centre half, Jack Higgins.

The second half continued in the same vein, with Fenwick getting the chances in the opening moments. There was a touch of offside when he side-footed home Connolly's low cross, whilst chances were coming at the other end, albeit slight. Andy Owens's poked shot was an easy catch, and Chalmers's free kick that floated over everybody was deliberately aimed at the far top corner, but Scott Flinders was alert.

Nti had a cracking close range effort denied by a top save from Tony McMillan, Connolly screwing the loose ball horrendously wide. Charlie Wardle was likewise denied by another fine stop from the Celtic number one, but there was nothing he could do when Rhys Thompson side footed home from close range after a great run from Connolly. Right before the end, Richard Brodie was also denied to keep the score at a more respectable 3-0.

There's still work to do with the Celtic squad, which is what pre-season is for.
