Match Report -
Celtic unable to break Hednesford defence.
By Deborah Taylor

In a game of few chances, Hednesford established their play-off credentials by taking both of theirs.

The home team opened their account a mere six minutes into the game, breaking at speed after fending off an early Celtic attack, where Celtic left their rear undermanned. A long ball down the field and though Sean Tse gave chase, Akheem Rose had the pace to go one-on-one with Charlie Monk and slot the ball past him. Celtic tried to find an opening in a well-drilled defence, but it took until moments before the interval before a gilt chance presented itself, Jack Irlam tried to lob Tony Breeden but also cleared the bar.

The second half continued in the same vein, with Hednesford content to defend their one-goal lead, while Celtic tried and failed to equalise. Courtney Meppen-Walters headed a free kick over the bar and Liam Tongue’s half volley flew narrowly wide. Any chance of getting anything from the game evaporated when Nathan Blissett powered through a crowd and got to the near post ahead of Monks to smash the ball in for the killing goal. There was still time for Celtic to try and get one back, and Elliot Rokka almost did, curling a shot to the top corner after good build up play, but Breeden leapt to the top corner to pluck the ball from the air.
