Ex-Stalybridge Celtic player and manager Keith Briggs has returned after two years away to help the rebuilding process under current manager Steve Burr.

Having joined as a player back in 2008 under Burr, he went on to play and captain the club for two seasons.

After successfully making the transition from player to staff member, Briggs was appointed manager of Celtic from 2013 to 2015.

Now he joins up for his third spell with the club and reunites with Steve Burr after he was his assistant at Southport.

He joins Andy Fearn as part of the backroom staff that will assist the manager for the forthcoming season

As the club look to develop talent for the future he will work closely with Academy Director David Sullivan in a coaching role to further strengthen the bridge between the academy and the first team.

On his appointment as Assistant Manager, Briggs said: " I'm very pleased to be back at the club for my third spell. The club means a lot to me and has always been close to my heart.
"We want to hit the ground running next season and want the supporters to be proud of what we hopefully will achieve this year.
"I've worked with Steve in various roles over the course of my career as a player and manager, so we have a strong working relationship. When he returned to Celtic this was always a possibility so I am pleased this has worked out."

Speaking about his role working with the academy, Briggs added: "I am looking to carry on the good work and help David (Sullivan) out in any way I can with the recruitment process.
"I want to try and be the link between the first team and the lads in the academy. It's often a difficult transition moving into the first team so for me to be able to assist in that development process will be key."

Celtic General Manager, Michael Beech, added: "It's great that Briggsy has re-joined us and Steve Burr.
"I know they had a great working relationship when Keith played here and more recently when Keith was Steve's assistant at Southport.
"On a personal level, it's great for me as I have a good working relationship with Keith following his time as manager here.
"We'll now look to build our squad with the vast range of contacts that the management team have."
