It was with regret and sadness that last week Stalybridge Celtic learnt of the passing of Kevin Jones, a long time Celtic supporter, at the age of 45.

Kevin followed Celtic home and away, he even helped run the programme shop next to the social club at times and we help a minute's applause for Kevin prior to the Stafford game as we paid our respects.

His funeral took place yesterday at Dukinfield Crematorium and after this Kevin's family came up to Bower Fold with a wreath of a Celtic shirt and this is where they were greeted by Simon Haworth and Dave Pover as they were leaving the club. Simon and Dave did what any Celtic man would do and went out onto the Bower Fold pitch and paid their respects to Kevin whilst Manager Simon laid the wreath in Kevin's favourite end of the ground.

Simon Barlow took to Facebook to personally thank Simon and Dave and said 'A massive thank you to Simon Haworth and David Pover of @stalybridgeceltic for allowing the reef of Kevin Jones to be laid on the pitch today, laid by the manager himself at Kevin's favourite end of the ground, words can't describe how much this would have meant to Kevin and his family, thank you'

Following this, Kevin's family have been invited to the game against Hyde United as guests of the club and we look forward to seeing them on Boxing Day!

Rest in Peace Kevin!
