Celtic are very pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Paddy Lacey.

Paddy joins Celtic until the end of the season after leaving National League North side Southport. Paddy joined Southport in January 2019 after spells with Accrington Stanley, Barrow and Altrincham. The central midfielder started his career at Sheffield Wednesday before joining Bradford in 2011. During the 2015/16 season, Paddy made 23 appearances for Barrow in the National League before joining Altrincham where he made a further 17 appearances.

He signed an 18 month contract with Southport in January 2019 and now joins Celtic until the end of the season as we target a play-off push.

Speaking about his latest recruit, Celtic Manager Simon Haworth said: "We're absolutely thrilled to sign Paddy Lacey, I've known him a long, long time. I think he's exactly what we need, I never thought we'd sort of get him this season but I've tried numerous times before to get him into one of my teams. He's a proper, proper football player, a real leader and takes no nonsense from his own team-mates and from the opposition, which I feel is what we need.
"Paddy is a huge, huge signing for us in terms of his ability and leadership. He's spent all his career playing at a higher level. He's made a few mistakes in his life that he's sorted out and I've got 100% trust in the boy to come and do a job for us, he's got my complete backing. < br /> "They'll be a couple more that we couldn't get over the line, next week. I felt we really needed four or five new faces. They've just not gotten through for the weekend. In terms of Paddy Lacey, I couldn't be happier and I think he's going to be a huge signing for the football club in our push for a play-off place."

Paddy becomes Celtic's third signing this week, following Ethan Walker and Adam O'Reilly's arrival from Preston North End.
