Question: What to do with English football? Answer: The answer is in Stalybridge!

In the light of the dismal performance by the England football team in the World Cup its reassuring that some good, solid back to basics football skills are happening closer to Home.

This Week sees the launch of the “Stalybridge Celtic Pro 21 Programme” - a Scheme that offers the opportunity for aspiring teenagers to pursue a dream destination in a “Pro-football club” whilst linking football coaching and education from techniques around the World – so that all participants are guaranteed an education that irrespective of playing ability can result in a career in the sports industry.

The initiative is headed by Alan Keeling, who has returned to Stalybridge Celtic as manager of the under-21s.

He was formerly the Academy Manager who took the team to the Conference Youth League Championship and National League and Cup Finals. After gaining his Brazilian Pro Licence the Club have now appointed him again linking with first team Manager Jim Harvey, to take the Club forward and with full time training as they did with Morecambe FC.

The question is where do we go next to enhance our football knowledge? Keeling felt Germany had the organisational skills to win the recent World Cup but he admired the Spanish movement off the ball, the Dutch technical ability and the all round skills of the Uruguayans.

The “Stalybridge Celtic Pro 21 Programme” will attempt to instill these qualities into the players, as we all still have lots to learn in the game and in life so the resultant NVQL2 in sports coaching will help the players also.

Trials are available from 10am to 1pm on Friday 16th July at The Tameside Stadium, Richmond Street, Ashton-under-Lyne OL7 9HG. Anyone can attend who is over 18 years of age and below 19 on 1st August 2010. The Programme is also available for individuals overseas on a fee basis. Other age groups will follow later.
