Match Report -
Goal line Clearance
By Debbie Taylor

Celtic failed to score in this friendly match near old rivals Emley. Very few Celtic fans actually made the journey to watch the squad near it's final shape.

Ossett roared out of the centre circle towards the Celtic goal line, forcing a corner off Matty Woods. Shaw pumped it into the box, Aspinall kept it in heading it back across the six yard box, and Chris Beaumont volleyed back goalwards, over his head, and Ingham's into the opposite corner. Ossett had caught Celtic napping and made them pay.

Celtic came back at Ossett, pressing for an equaliser that would never come. Andy Evans came close, with a typical diagnoal drive and snap shot that forced the best out of Hood between the Ossett sticks. Courtney too, brought out the best of the new Ossett keeper, palming the ball around the post after Courtney drove it in low and hard.

For the second time in two games Celtic had a ball cleared from the line. As the ball came in off the corner, it was headed downward, and goalwards, by Ashley Fickling only to see a leg stretched out by the Ossett number 3, Barker blocking the shot. Hood twisted his body well to smother the ball before Courtney could stab the ball home.

Ossett's second chance of the half came towards the end of it, when Stabb met a cross with his head, and saw it clip the crossbar.

Now organised, the Celtic defence stood strong, blocking the Ossett attacks, and playing the ball up field. owever Celtic were finding the final ball difficult to come by, and never really bothered Ossett's keeper for the rest of the half.

In the second half, Ossett again tried to attack swiftly before Celtic could steady themselves. This time it took two saves from Ingham to deny Ossett a brace of goals.

Fickling looked to tempt Futcher with an offer, when his free kick skimmed the upright after leaving Hood rooted on the opposite side of the goal. Celtic almost made good several times, with the best chances falling to Pickford, who forced saves from Hood. Though Courtney and Evans both were almost on the score sheet, but denied by the width of a post.

Celtic needed to be better prepared for the opening 5 minutes of the halves, otherwise they played good football, depsite the loss.
