Match Preview :- Whitby Town - Tuesday October 3rd, 2017 (15:00:00)

Tuesday night sees Celtic face Whitby Town at Bower Fold. Whitby are currently in eleventh in the league on twenty points, twelve places and ten points above Celtic, though they have played a game more. There will be a match centre and Twitter feed for this game.

We've already played, and lost to, Whitby this season, back in August, when we lost in a disappointing capitulation of 4-1 in our first away game of the season. Since then, Whitby's form took something of a dip, losing three and drawing once. However, in recent games, it's picked up again, with Whitby winning the last three matches, scoring sic and conceding two in that period, with two clean sheets in their most recent two games. Away from home they have beaten Matlock and Buxton, but lost the other four, their most recent away defeat losing 4-1 at Lancaster.

Their top scorer this season is David Carson with seven goals (though he hasn't scored away from home yet), Kieran Weledji trailing somewhat on four. They've had eight different scorers grabbing their twenty goals this season (five away from home) at a rate of 1.4 per game (0.8 away from home). They're conceding at a rate of 1.6 goals per game (1.5 away) and have conceded twenty-three goals, nine of which were away. They've kept one clean sheet on the road (their last away game at Buxton), and failed to score in three of their six away matches.

Their last visit to Bower Fold was in 2012 when Celtic won 3-1 in the FA Cup, with Jamie Mullan and Greg Wilkinson the scorers (plus an own goal). Whitby's last win here was in 2004 in the FA Trophy, when they knocked us out with a 1-0 win. Celtic's last league win over Whitby at Bower Fold was in 2002 when we won 2-0, with Phil Eastwood grabbing both goals. Whitby's last visit in the league was in 2004, when they won 3-1, Ian Monk getting Celtic's consolation. In the last eight visits, Celtic have won three, Whitby have won three and there have been two draws.

In Whitby's last match, the 1-0 home win over Barwell at the weekend, Whitby lined up as:
1. Shane Bland
2. Callum Martin
3. Daniel McWilliams
4. Luke Bythway
5. Niall McGoldrick
6. Andrew May
7. Adam Gell
8. Steve Snaith
9. James Risborough
10. David Carson
11. Kyle Fryatt

In Celtic's last match, the 0-0 home draw with Altrincham, Celtic lined up as:
1. Jack Walton
2. Oliver Crowley
3. Alex Honeyball
4. Tom Brown
5. Luke Ashworth
6. Ross Killock
7. Aidan Chippendale
8. Oli Roberts
9. Liam Dickinson
10. Jake Charles
11. Sebastian Julien

A win for Celtic could lift us to twenty-first, but more importantly, show that we've turned a corner in terms of losing. Whitby will be also looking to win, as this could lift them level on points with the top five. With Danny Morton still suspended, Joe Garvin and Joe Slinn both still injured, it's likely to be a similar line-up to Saturday for Celtic.
