Celtic Draw PSF At Home To Huddersfield
By Debbie Taylor

A goal apiece in the second half capped off an enjoyable pre-season fixture, but the takeaway from the game was how well the Celtic defence coped with Huddersfield.

The visitors couldn't muster a shot in the first half despite excellent pressure, with all the chances falling Celtic's way. Greg Wilkinson should have done better at the back post from Danny Pilkington's cross, putting the ball the wrong side of the post, whilst Joe Garvin's rocket of a shot needed a deflection out for a corner to deny him a goal. Aaron Burns went close, heading narrowly over the bar, and Danny Morton got onto the end of a Burns cross, but also headed over.

The second half saw Aaron Burns come agonisingly close, forcing a top class save from Ryan Schofield, whilst Pilkington's thirty-five yard curler was wide. Huddersfield started to create chances about the hour mark, Denilson Carvalho's grass skimming shot through a crowd crashing back off the post.

The opening goal came just past the hour, when Sam Gibson showed great individual skill after coming on as a substitute, to create the space and fire an accurate shot across Joe Slinn into the far bottom corner.

Celtic kept creating chances of their own, though, Pilkington curling a free kick that required an athletic tip over from Schofield and Schofield was on his toes when Andy Langford tried an audacious forty-yard lob the keeper caught under his crossbar.

The visitor's lead lasted just ten minutes, when Lee Neville whipped in a looping cross to the back post. Danny Morton reached it, pulling it back from the touchline to Theo Bailey-Jones, who tapped the ball under Schofield from close range.

Huddersfield could have snatched it, but for wayward finishing and a fine reaction stop from Lewis King, close range and flying to deny Dom Tear. In the final moments, Sam Gibson again tried his luck, but this time, it was a routine catch for King and the scores remained level in Celtic's last home pre-season fixture before the season.
