For the first time this season, Celtic grabbed a last second winner, mirroring the game at Kidsgrove.

The deserved win came off the back of a committed performance, with Celtic winning the game three times. In the opening exchanges, after Max Leonard and Liam Tongue were off target, Tongue’s next effort was very much on target, though the curving shot swerved back on itself wrong-footing Aaron Woolrich for the opener. The lead lasted less than quarter of an hour, when the Celtic backline had several chances to clear, but failed, and Jay Ford capitalised via a deflection off Jack Byrne. Ruben Jerome and Ellis Horan went close, and Jerome can curse a dubious offside decision after a good stop from Woolrich fell to Jerome to tap in.

Any hopes of another away draw for Kidsgrove unravelled two minutes into the second half when Jerome feinted twice, drawing defenders and keeper before putting them out of their misery with a close-range goal. Jack Tinnnig came on for Aaron Chalmers, his first touch needed a deflection to deny him a goal. A harsh decision on Charlie Doyle gave Athletic a free kick in a dangerous position, and the visitors packed Celtic’s box, the ball squirmed through to Oliver Jepson and for the second time, Kidsgrove were level with fifteen minutes to go. Cue a Celtic rampage. With Dontai Gabidon speeding down the wing, it needed a professional foul to stop him and Harry Brereton took a second yellow for it. From the free kick, Kidsgrove packed their own box, blocking Jordan Butterworth’s effort for a corner, though the corner was cleared, Gabidon again took to the wing, brought down this time by Reuben Falding. Again a packed box, but Gabidon's precision pass found Andy Scarisbrick in his favourite position to turn the ball into the back of the net with seconds left of stoppage time.
