The game started slowly and there was no clear chances for either side early on. Liam Hardy managed to break past the Celtic defence on 21 minutes but he dragged his shot well wide. Moments later Jude Oyibo then fired a cross from the left-hand side which hit the cross bar but Celtic were able to clear the rebound. The final action of the half came on 44 minutes when the referee issued two red cards.
Nathan Valentine was elbowed off the ball by Billy Priestley which the referee failed to spot. Craig Hobson retaliated to the horrible challenge and a scuffle involving both teams ensued. After consulting both linesmen, Priestley was shown a red card for his initial foul and Hobson was shown red for his retaliation.
Both teams went into the break with the scores and players level.
Buxton started the second half looking for a goal. Alex Fojticek was called into action for the first time, making a superb save to deny a bullet header. The rebound was fired towards goal but the Celtic defence did well to block the ball on the line. Oyibo had a chance on the break for Buxton but he couldn’t test Fojticek with his effort.
Scott Bakkor had a great chance to put Celtic ahead on 61 minutes. Valentine drilled a low cross to Scott, he took a touch but fired narrowly wide. Celtic continued to push for a goal, Neil Kengni did well to find Tony Whitehead on the edge of the area but his shot went over the bar. Valentine then played a lovely ball through to Ross Dent who was brought down inside the penalty area before he could get his shot away.
Buxton were always a threat and Fojticek had to make a cracking save on 83 minutes, diving to his left to save Oyibo’s effort.
That was the last of the action with Celtic earning a point away from home.
