On Tuesday night, Celtic face high-flying North Ferriby United (kick off 7:45pm). The Villagers are currently third in the table on seventy points, fifteen places and twenty-seven points ahead of Celtic. Failure to win for Ferriby would mean Solihull are crowned champions. There will be a match centre for this game - weather permitting.
With three wins in their opening eleven matches, North Ferriby had a slow start to the season, though they did only lose one match in this period, their opening game away at Tamworth. They had seven consecutive draws. Since then, fortunes have improved, and they had been – week on week – catching up with league leaders Solihull and now sit just fourteen points behind them, however, they only have fifteen points remaining, so anything less than a win will mean Solihull will be crowned champions without kicking a ball. Ferriby had a wobble in February when they didn't win in five matches but in their last six, they have only dropped two points by drawing 3-3 with Worcester in their last home match. Their position this season has been aided in part by having the second best attack in the league and having scored more goals than anybody else except Solihull, with Tom Denton the highest league scorer on twenty-one goals and his strike partner Liam King also in the top five league strikers with fifteen. Curtis Bateson isn't far behind on eleven.
On average, they are scoring 2 goals per game and conceding 1.2 goals per game (1.7 away). North Ferriby finish games strongly, with sixteen of their seventy-five goals scored right at the death, something that has won games and rescued points for them all season. Their weakest period is on the hour, when they have conceded ten of their forty-three goals. They have kept thirteen clean sheets this season, though only two on the road, and failed to score just three times on the road. Not quite half of their scored goals have come on the road, whereas three quarters of their conceded goals have come whilst away from Hull.
We have faced North Ferriby three times already this season, twice in the FA Cup. Thanks to a Bohan Dixon master-class right at the death of the original tie at Bower Fold, Celtic earned a replay. This finished 0-0 at full time, and Russ Fry missed his penalty to send Celtic through. In our visit to the East coast, Ferriby won 1-0, with Tom Denton getting his head on a cross. In the previous two seasons, Celtic had been unable to beat the Villagers, with North Ferriby winning three of the four meetings. Last season's tie at Bower Fold finished 2-2, with Dominic Calvert Lewin getting both of Celtic's goals.
North Ferriby have no suspension and appear to have a full squad to choose from. In their last match, the 1-0 away win at Fylde, United lined up as:
1. Adam Nicklin
2. Ben Middleton
3. Josh Wilde
4. Liam King
5. Ash Palmer
6. Danny Hone
7. Danny Clarke
8. Russ Fry
9. Tom Denton
10. Nathan Hotte
11. Curtis Bateson
Celtic, too, should have a full squad to choose from, and in our last match, the disappointing 5-2 home loss to Nuneaton, Celtic lined up as:
1. Tony McMillan
2. Peter Wylie
3. Danny Wisdom
4. Matty Hughes
5. Jack Higgins
6. Aaron Chalmers
7. Charlie Joyce
8. Alec Mudimu
9. Adam Farrell
10. Ben McKenna
11. Aidan Chippendale
Celtic are three points clear of the drop zone, but one win would see us pass the forty-five points mark which was our total last season and rise five places in the table. This is our game in hand on the teams around us, failing to get anything out of this game would mean Lowestoft are within striking distance and have a game in hand. There is a lot riding on this game.
