On Saturday, Celtic make the long trek south to face Gloucester City in the current Cheltenham home. Gloucester are currently safe from relegation and just out of reach of the play-offs in tenth with fifty-eight points, twenty-nine points and eleven places above Celtic. There will be a match centre and Twitter feed for this game.
Gloucester can mathematically reach the play-offs, but it would require winning every game and hoping for Salford or Darlington to get no more wins. They have had a reasonable season, getting as high as sixth in November, but a run of six defeats saw them drop to their current mid-table spot, which they have occupied since. In their last five home games, they have won once, beating Alfreton 4-0. Additionally, they drew 1-1 against Harrogate but lost 3-1 to Brackley, 3-2 to FC United and (most recently) 2-1 to Kidderminster. In total, they have won nine of their home matches, drawn twice and lost eight.
The Tigers have scored sixty-two goals this season (thirty-seven at home) at a rate of 1.6 goals per game (two goals a game at home). They have conceded fifty-five goals (twenty-seven at home) at a rate of 1.4 goals per game. They have kept six clean sheets at home this season, twelve overall, and failed to score three times at home (seven times overall). Their top scorer is Luke Hopper, on thirteen, though after his recent hat-trick, Zack Kotwica is right behind him on eleven. In the five games that they have been losing at half time, they have gone onto lose them all.
We've visited the various homes of Gloucester City seven times over the past thirty years, with our last win there a 1-0 win in November 2014, with Stefan Galinski scoring his only goal for the club (he did score another, but the result was expunged) in a game Celtic dominated from start to finish. Our last visit there, last season saw us succumb to a 3-0 defeat in January. In total, we have had four wins, and three losses.
In Gloucester City's most recent game, the 2-1 home defeat to Kidderminster Harriers, they lined up as:
1. Jas Singh
2. Luke Thomas
3. Danny Greenslade
4. Spencer Hamilton
5. Sam Avery
6. Darren Mullings
7. Joe Hanks
8. James Fitzgibbon
9. Luke Hopper
10. Zack Kotwica
11. Edward Williams
Celtic's last match was the outstanding 1-0 home win over promotion hopefuls, Kidderminster Harriers, in which Celtic lined up as:
1. Grant Shenton
2. Danny Morton
3. Danny Wisdom
4. Matty Hughes
5. Adam Mather
6. Aaron Chalmers
7. Kieran Dunbar
8. Matt Regan
9. Andy Bishop
10. James Roberts
11. Danny Pilkington
After that win, Celtic's position is such that a win could lift us above Gainsborough Trinity, and – more importantly – put us within reach of going past Worcester City with our game in hand, should both these teams lose. Gainsborough are hosting Salford City, whilst Worcester are away at Chorley. We would still need to win our game in hand, and that's against Harrogate a week on Tuesday. We have Chorley and Tamworth before then. That said, we have just beaten the league leaders and second placed teams, because we wanted it more.
