Match Preview :- Solihull Moors - Saturday January 16th, 2016 (15:00:00)

On Saturday, Celtic travel to top of the table Solihull Moors (Kick off 3pm – weather permitting). Solihull are one point clear of North Ferriby in second, but do have a game in hand. They are twenty-two points ahead of Celtic, and thirteen places above us, though we do have two games in hand on them! There should be a match centre for this game.

Solihull have been in the top three all season; reclaiming it off Fylde a shot while ago. Up until now, Fylde, Solihull and Nuneaton have been battling it out for the top spot; recently, Boston and North Ferriby have joined the mix. This is keeping pressure on the top teams, and they need to win, to keep that automatic promotion spot. Solihull have lost twice all season; both at home. The first was the start of December when Boston beat them 1-0. The second was the start of January when North Ferriby beat them 3-1. They have also drawn eight games, so have won fourteen of their twenty-four games. Only Boston have won more. With seventeen games unbeaten under their belt, Solihull are the current holders of the longest unbeaten run in the league this season.

With forty-five goals, at a rate of 1.9 per game, they have the second best attack in the league behind North Ferriby, they also top the defence chart, having conceded only twenty-one goals at a rate of less than a goal per game. They have only conceded six goals at home all season, just over half a goal per game. Solihull have failed to score in two home games and one away, they have kept seven clean sheets at home (nine overall), Only North Ferriby have scored more than one past them at home, scoring three, HALF of their total concession at home this season. Alfreton, Boston and Nuneaton are the other teams to score. Surprisingly, Stefan Moore's and Darryl Knights's ten goals apiece see them vying for pole position for the Golden Boot, but they only just creeps into the top 10 goal scorers in the league, in joint ninth.

We've already played Solihull this season when we lost 3-1 at home back in August. To reduce the doom and gloom, Celtic's last visit to Solihull, last season, they were again flying high with Omar Bogle knocking them in for fun, and Celtic won 2-1, with Kevin Holsgrove and Paul Ennis the scorers, Darryl Knights pulling one back, but Celtic holding on. Even more surprisingly, we nearly won the year before, too. Though the game finished 3-3, with Obi Anorou getting two and Kristian Platt the other, It was a late, late equaliser from Gary Birch that rescued a point for Moors after he'd got them within sniffing distance with five minutes to go. The last time Solihull beat us at Damson Park was December 2012, when they won 1-0, in what was a fairly even game, but Celtic were trying the unusual formation of 4-6-0 in that game. Overall, in eleven visits, Moors have won three, and Celtic have won three.

Solihull would appear to have a fully fit squad to choose from. In their last match, the 3-1 home defeat to North Ferriby, Solihull lined up as:
1. Benjamin Siegrist
2. Michael Nottingham
3. Steven Leslie
4. Liam Daly
5. Theo Streete
6. Gareth Dean
7. Stefan Moore
8. Jack Byrne
9. Akwasi Asante
10. Ryan Beswick
11. Darryl Knights.

Celtic lost their last match, 3-0 away at Gloucester. In that match, we lined up as:
1. Tony McMillan
2. Peter Wylie
3. Danny Wisdom
4. Matty Highes
5. Jack Higgins
6. John Shaw
7. Bohan Dixon
8. Alex Mudimu
9. Chris Simm
10. Aaron Chalmers
11. Aidan Chippendale

Celtic need to get some wins under their belt, in our last six away games we have won just two, Brackley and Alfreton. We've conceded sixteen goals in that time, and responded with seven, failing to score in three of them. This means three teams are now in a position to overtake us with just one win, though a win for us could lift us over five teams. The centre of the table is getting congested. Though we might be sixteen points off the top five, we're also seven points clear of the bottom three. With games in hand over both ends of the table.
