Match Preview :- Clitheroe - Tuesday August 25th, 2026 (19:45:00)

On Tuesday, it’s back to league action as Celtic travel to Clitheroe. Clitheroe have played one league game so far this season, which they lost, leaving them bottom. Kick off 7:45pm.

Clitheroe’s only league game saw them lose 1-0 at home to Lower Breck, but they have played three cup games, beating AFC Liverpool in the extra-preliminary round of the FA Cup, which they won 5-0 to go on to face Wythenshawe on Saturday, losing 3-1. Their other game this season saw them go out to Pontefract in the FA Trophy, losing 2-1, with Nathan Sandison getting Clitheroe’s goal. Last season, Clitheroe finished fifteenth, starting the season hit and miss, with four wins a draw and five losses in their opening ten games. After beating Darlaston Town 9-1, Clitheroe’s last ten saw one win four draws and five losses. Their top scorer last season with eleven goals was Harry Scarborough (still with the club), two ahead of Luke Gill. They scored an average of 1.5 goals per game (2.0 at home and 1.0 away), whilst conceding 1.6 goals per game (1.5 at home, 1.7 away), keeping four of their nine clean sheets at home, and failing to score four times at home and eight away.

Clitheroe and Celtic drew 3-3 in our last meeting, at Bower Fold, with Liam Tongue, Ruben Jerome and Jack Tinning on the score sheet, Tinning’s last gasp equaliser a rare but important goal. Our last visit to Clitheroe again saw Celtic score three, winning 3-1, with Ellis Horan, Benni Smales-Braithwaite and Dylan Scott scoring. Competitive meetings have only been recent, with Celtic winning three and drawing three, but last season was our only win in Clitheroe.

In Clitheroe’s last match, the 3-1 away defeat to Wythenshawe, Clitheroe lined up as:
1. Liam Isherwood
2. Max Harrison
3. Maine Walder
4. Jordan Carroll
5. Brad Ditch
6. Sean Newton
7. Rio Alston
8. Freddie Machell
9. Harry Scarborough
10. Jason Gilchrist
11. Nathan Sandison

In Celtic’s last match, the 2-1 away defeat to Tadcaster, Celtic lined up as:
1. Charlie Monks
2. Cam Fogerty
3. Kyle Brownhill
4. Andy Scarisbrick
5. Josh Granite
6. Jack Byrne
7. Obua Mugalula
8. Liam Tongue
9. Ruben Jerome
10. Jack Irlam
11. Benni Smales-Braithewaite

It’s still early days in the League this season, but Celtic need a strong comeback after the disappointment of Tadcaster. The make-do and mend line up at Albion is likely to continue on Tuesday.
