Super Stalybridge Celtic made it into the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round, with an away win at Northern Premier League outfit, Workington.

Playing against a team from a higher league, allbeit a struggling one, Celtic went into the game full of confidence and on the back of some recent excellent results.

Jack Irlam opened the scoring before Benni Smales-Braithwaite doubled the lead, minutes later, with a screamer of a free kick.

Workington got a foothold back in the game when David Symington reduced the arrears but after Ellis Horan had restored the two goal cushion, it all seemed done and dusted.

A nervy last few minutes were to ensue though as Steven Rigg scored for the hosts but Celtic were able to see the game out and progress into the next round.

A cup run has been rare in recent seasons but such good results can only help build confidence to carry on into the league campaign.

This was fully deserved and full credit to the coaching staff, all the players and the magnificent travelling support who again followed in numbers and with noise
