Match Report -
First friendly
By Deborah Taylor

Celtic's first friendly of the new season took place in searing temperatures, resulting in a lower pace to the game, and it being a friendly there was a different outfield ten in the second half.

The first half saw the back line comfortable with anything in Uppermill had in their locker. Around the Uppermill goal, they rode their luck a little, with a decent stop from the Uppermill custodian from Lewis Rawsthorne's first time effort off an Obula Mugalula layoff. A few minutes later, Rawsthorne found the back of the net, but had been offside, before Jack Tinning's header on a corner hit the outside of the post. Mugalula lobbed the keeper eighteen yards out, but clipped the bar, before forty minutes in, the deadlock broke when Mugalula cut inside, danced along the line and put it into the path of Rawsthorne to tap in. Rawsthorn went for audacious in the last minute of the half, spotting the keeper off his line, tried his luck from three quarters of a pitch away, missing by a foot.

The second half started with Ellis Horan doing what he does best, harrying and forcing mistakes. When Uppermill didn't clear their lines, Horan nipped in and scuffed his shot past the keeper and in off the post. The keeper pulled off a great one-on-one stop from Horan, Ruben Jerome dragged his effort wide after doing the hard work and Andy Scarisbrick hit the post before firing straight at the keeper. The half ended as it began, with a goal from Horan, though this time he pulled out a thirty-yard top corner screamer.

Friendlies are no indication of league performance, but on this showing, we look strong and have depth and options.
