During the last couple of months at Bower Fold, musicians
from Manchester Camerata have been running music and drama sessions for older people
in the community, to create an exciting new music theatre piece about identity,
belonging and community.
Over the course of six workshops the participants have explored aspects of their own identities and those of others. Together they have written all of the lyrics and melodies, devised the narrative and staged a new piece.
The sessions have also included experimenting with percussion
instruments from around the world.
The group here at Stalybridge will join three other groups
from Ashton, Hyde and Droylsden to perform at The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester
on Saturday 26th September. This pre-concert event is free to attend
and starts at 6.30 pm.
The unique performance will begin with a set of closed boxes
packed up onstage, which represent how the participants might feel in society.
As the boxes and the participants open up, they will take the audience on a
musical journey and colour, life and opportunity will begin to unfold.
