Vintage Celtic, our over 50's Walking Football team were back in action yesterday, at a Tournament organised by ALFA Sport Lifeline project at Soccer in the City in city centre Manchester.
The yellow kit was back in action for the third time, the previous outings playing in it saw Vintage Celtic finish third at the Wythenshawe Games and the Cheshire FA festival, so the lads were not too impressed when it was produced in the Changing Rooms prior to the tournament starting!
Playing on a great surface in superb facilities Vintage Celtic strolled through the Group Stages as follows -
Vintage Celtic 5 v 2 Chesterton Crusaders
Vintage Celtic 6 v 0 Alfa Lifeline Project B
Vintage Celtic 3 v 2 Manchester City A
Vintage Celtic 4 v 1 Nelson FC
So onto the Quarter Finals, and Manchester City B were dispatched 4-1, and another fixture versus Chesterton Crusaders was on the cards in the Semi Finals, unfortunately, Vintage Celtic and their yellow kit were soundly beaten 3-0, and dumped out with the Trophy in sight.
The overall winners were Manchester City A who beat Chesterton Crusaders 1-0 in the Final.
Our thanks go to Jeff Pond at the Alfa Project for a great day of Walking Football.
The yellow kit has now been returned to our Kitmen, Mark Storah and Nigel Shaw, never to grace Vintage Celtic again....
