"Simon is putting together a very strong squad and is very hopeful for the season ahead and off the pitch, although it's been obviously stressful, a lot is developing behind the scenes.
"I am delighted to announce that Rob Downes has joined the main board and will become responsible for ground safety, Covid-19 policies and other essential ground matters.
"Rob has watched Celtic over the decades and we are very fortunate to have him onboard in an official capacity.
"Not only will he bring fresh ideas and momentum to the boardroom, Rob's qualifications mean that we now can, for example, increase our official capacity by another 800 - just in time for our FA Cup Third Round home tie!
