We’re excited to confirm the signing of Tom Thorpe who joins the Club from Macclesfield FC.

The 30-year-old who can play in both defence and midfield is a former Manchester United youth team captain and signs for Celtic ahead of tomorrow’s league game away at Hednesford Town.

Starting his career in the youth system at Old Trafford, Tom spent six years with Manchester United and made a senior Premier League appearance for the club in 2014.

Tom spent time on loan with Birmingham City, Rotherham United, Bradford City and Bolton Wanderers before a year in India playing for former Indian Super League side ATK.

Tom returned to the UK and helped Macclesfield in the second half of last season to the NPL West League title.

Tom has represented England from U16's up to U21 level, making 26 appearances for England's youth sides. He was part of the 2010 U17 European Championship winning side side and was named England U19 captain for the U19 2012 Euros.

Manager James Kinsey was thrilled to seal Tom’s signature, he said: “Tom is an exceptional player that has played at the highest level. He is in great shape and is somebody we’re really looking forward to working with. He can play in the midfield or at the back and offers great versatility to our squad.

“We’ve had options become available to bring in but we haven’t jumped in as we didn’t want to just bring anybody in. Bringing Tom in was a no brainer for us when we knew he was available and we’re really hopeful that he can bring a lot of things to the group and really help us push on.”

Welcome to Celtic, Tom!
