On Tuesday Night, League football returns to Bower Fold with Vauxhall Motors the visitors, in the rearranged match from October 12th (kick off 7:45pm). Vauxhall are currently tenth in the league on fifteen points, four points and four places ahead of fourteenth placed Celtic. There will be a match centre for this match, biblical flood permitting.
Vauxhall are having a tremendous season, with their home form seeing them flying high. Their away form has been less impressive, with their last away win back in August when they beat Workington 1-0. They have lost their last three away games, most recently losing 2-1 to Brackley Town. At home, only Altrincham and North Ferriby United have beaten Vauxhall this season, with their most recent game being a 1-1 draw with Barrow. Scoring the last gasp equaliser for Vauxhall was former Celtic striker, Lloyd Ellams. That's not the first time he's done that, also grabbing a last gasp winner to beat Stockport 2-1 at Rivacre Park.
The top scoring Motormen this season are Lloyd Ellams and Sean Williams, who have three apiece. With eight of their twelve goals coming in the first half, and two thirds of their conceding also done in the first half, it appears that Vauxhall do all their play in the first half of the game. Vauxhall have only failed to score three times this season (twice on the road, and once at home), and have kept two clean sheets, one at home and one away.
The last meeting between the two sides was back in March last season at Rivacre Park, a game that finished goalless. Motor's last visit to Bower Fold saw them come away with all three points, after winning 1-0. This was a measure of revenge from Celtic knocking Vauxhall out of the FA cup in September. Celtic's last league win over Vauxhall at Bower Fold was back in August 2012, in a thrilling game that finished 4-2, with a hattrick from Phil Marsh and a peach from Connor Jennings. In the previous fourteen visits to Bower Fold, Vauxhall have won five, Celtic have won seven and there have been two draws.
Vauxhall do not have any suspension worries ahead of the game on Tuesday night, and appear to be injury free. In their last match, the 1-1 home draw t Barrow, Vauxhall lined up as:
1. Zac Jones
2. Steve Wainwright
3. Louis Barnes
4. Tom Hannigan
5. Andy Nicholas
6. Chris Noone
7. Karl Noon
8. Matthew Williams
9. Ashley Stott
10. Ellams
11. Matthew Kosylo
Celtic will be giving a home debut to the new management team of Keith Briggs and Andy Fearn, although registration documentation has yet to come through to allow Briggs to play, he can manage. Celtic were still without the injured Tom Buckley, but Matty Urwin returned, and both Obi Anorou and Lewis Hatch managed some time against Leamington in the 0-1 loss on Saturday. In that match, Celtic lined up as:
1. Matty Urwin
2. Kelvin Bleau
3. Andy McWilliams
4. Mark KLees
5. Joel Bembo-Leta
6. Kristian Platt
7. Adam Pepper
8. Lewis Hatch
9. Obi Anorou
10. Sean McConville
11. Prince Haywood
There are two other games on Tuesday:
North Ferriby United (25pts 3rd) v Guiseley (9pts 20th)
Harrogate Town (11pts 12th) v Workington (8pts 22nd)
Whilst a win could lift Celtic to eleventh, should Workington and Guiseley win and Celtic lose, we could drop to sixteenth, so Celtic really need to get a win under their belt on Tuesday.
